Vicky Lee at Tianying Helped a Liberian Buyer Secure 4 Used Toyota Coasters

My name is Vicky Lee. I sell used buses for Tianying Used Bus, and some days the job feels like matchmaking: matching needs to vehicles, expectations to reality, and—most importantly—trust to an uncertain process. This is the story of one of those matches. Short version: a new customer from Liberia contacted us, we had four Used Toyota Coasters in stock, they came to inspect them, and on August 20, 2025 we confirmed the order. It sounds simple. It wasn’t. And I’ll tell you why.

It all began on April 15, 2025. An email arrived — organic search, so the client had found our website first. That detail matters because people who come through Google have usually done some homework. They look, compare, worry. They don’t write just for fun.

Their request was practical: four Toyota Coasters for passenger transport, as soon as possible. They wanted dependable buses that could handle day-to-day routes back home. No frills. No nonsense. I answered right away (I always try to). Introduced myself, asked a few simple questions: model year range, expected mileage, purpose, and whether they could come inspect the buses in person.

Lucky timing. We actually had four Coasters sitting in our yard — real stock, not pictures pulled from some broker’s folder. These buses came from a company fleet in Xingyang, Zhengzhou (they’d been employee shuttle buses for a state-owned enterprise). That background is a subtle signal of something buyers care about: consistent maintenance. If a company used them daily for staff transport, chances are they were on regular service schedules. Not perfect, but better than many alternatives.

The customer said they could visit. I prefer when clients come to the yard. You can send photos until your phone dies, but seeing a vehicle clears up so many doubts. So we arranged it.

On the day they arrived, I remember small things: the yard smelled faintly of diesel and new rubber, sunlight slanting off windshields, and the sound of a mechanic testing an alternator in the next bay. We walked the four buses slowly. I opened hatches, we looked at service logs, I pointed out small patches of touch-up paint and explained why they were there (minor parking scrapes, not accidents). I showed them the maintenance stickers, the dates of last oil changes, and the actual tires — not pretty in a showroom way, but solid.

They asked blunt questions. “Has this ever been in a flood?” “Any frame repairs?” “How many kilometers?” That’s what I like — directness. I answered honestly. I’m not trying to sell something that will come back and bite anyone. When the client asks something I don’t know to the last digit, I say I’ll check and follow up. No evasions. They seemed to appreciate that.

After the yard visit, they wanted a bit of time. That’s normal. Buying across borders means a lot of moving parts: payment terms, export documents, shipping windows, port procedures, local import costs. I kept the chat open on WhatsApp, sending a few extra photos of the engines and the trunk spaces, confirming the VINs, and answering small last-minute questions about seating configurations.

On August 20, 2025, they confirmed: “We’ll take all four.” I can’t describe that little rush — relief, yes, and satisfaction. You hope for these moments. You work for them. But it’s not just a sale. For the customer, it’s a big investment, and for us, it’s our reputation on the line.

So why did they choose Tianying? A few simple things, as far as I can tell:

  • The preowned vehicles were verifiable stock — they were physically at our yard and available for immediate inspection. No waiting.
  • The buses had traceable backgrounds— company fleet history usually means regular servicing.
  • I stayed with them through the whole process — from the first email to final confirmation — answering questions and being transparent.
  • We were open about minor defects. We pointed them out ourselves instead of pretending they didn’t exist.

Those points are not flashy, but they matter. International buyers worry about fake photos, hidden damage, and sellers who disappear after payment. I don’t want to be one of those sellers. I want buyers to feel they can trust Tianying — and me personally — to make sure the buses are what we say they are.

One thing I often tell prospective buyers is: don’t be shy about asking for proof. Request VINs. Ask for engine photos. Insist on seeing service stickers. Ask for a live video call if you can’t come in person. A trustworthy supplier will say yes and help. If they say no, that’s a red flag.

A quick word about logistics — not because it’s glamorous, but because it’s the place where deals can get stuck. After confirmation, the export paperwork had to be arranged: export certificates, customs declarations, and shipping booking. We coordinated with our freight forwarder and kept the customer updated at every step. Exporting used vehicles is routine for us, but for many buyers it’s new territory. I explain each stage, sometimes more than once. I don’t mind repeating — better than surprises later.

Now the buses are set to leave China and head to Liberia. I like to imagine them arriving and starting service — passengers getting on, drivers smiling, routes running. It makes the paperwork and the back-and-forth worth it.

If you’re thinking about buying used buses from China (Toyota Coaster or otherwise), here are a few things I’ve learned from doing this for years:

  • Verify stock in person if you can. If you can’t, ask for live video and VINs.
  • Know the vehicle background. Fleet buses often tell a useful maintenance story.
  • Keep communication tight — WhatsApp is quick for photos and short questions.
  • Don’t rush the export paperwork. Start planning it early.
  • Work with someone who will be honest — and who will stand by the vehicle.

If you want to talk about Toyota Coasters (we often have them), or used buses from China more generally, write to me. I’ll answer. I’ll show you what’s in the yard. And if we do business, I’ll walk with you through the whole process.
