You know, in this job, you have a lot of conversations. But the ones that stick with you, the ones you remember when you’re driving home, aren’t about horsepower or fuel efficiency. They’re about people. Let me tell you about Abdoulaye. (That’s not his real name, but let’s call him that for his privacy.)

This story actually starts with another client, Jean, from Côte d’Ivoire. We’d sold Jean some used coaches a couple years back, and let me tell you, I was so nervous shipping that first order. But it worked out. We kept in touch, the way you do. So when my phone buzzed on September 15th and I saw a new message from a Côte d’Ivoire number, my first thought wasn’t “new client,” it was “I hope Jean’s buses are still running smoothly!”

The message was in French, but the gist was: “Hello Reina. Jean from Abidjan gave me your number. He said you are the only person he trusts for preowned buses in China. I need your help.”

Wow. Just… wow. That kind of thing? It hits you right in the heart. This wasn’t a lead; it was a hand-off.

The “Boring” Part That Was Anything But

Abdoulaye knew what he needed – sturdy coaches for his growing business. We talked specs, of course. But I remember our call getting really interesting when I started telling him about the buses’ histories. I didn’t just say “I have two Yutong ZK6109s.”

I said, “I found these two used Yutong buses in Jiamusi city, Heilongjiang Province. It’s a coastal city, can you believe it? The air there is a bit salty, so I made a point to personally check for any unusual corrosion when we acquired them. There wasn’t any, thankfully. They came from a family-run transport company – the owner knew every driver by name. You can feel that in a vehicle, you know?”

For the Higer KLQ6120, I told him, “This one feels like a luxury liner. It served a state-run tourism company. I found an old itinerary tucked in a seat pocket – it was used on scenic routes! The engine is barely broken in.”

I could hear him smiling on the other end of the line. We weren’t talking about metal and rubber anymore. We were talking about characters, about stories.

The Day Everything Changed

He was coming to China in October. I didn’t even think twice. “You have to come to the yard,” I said. “I’ll show you everything. The good, the bad, the dusty. We’ll have lunch.”

The day he arrived was bright and a little windy. I remember because his tie kept flapping over his shoulder. I met him at the gate, and we walked past rows of buses. I pointed at different ones, giving him little snippets: “That one’s a troublemaker, needs more work than it’s worth… Ah, this one here, a real gem from Shanghai…”

When we got to his three buses, I didn’t give a presentation. I just handed him a flashlight.

“Go on,” I said. “The best salesperson is your own two eyes.”

And he did. He climbed underneath the Higer, his nice slacks getting a little dusty. He tapped the tires, he started the engine and just listened with his eyes closed. He sat in every single seat, testing the recline. At one point, he called me over. “Reina, this panel is loose,” he said, pointing to a small interior trim piece near the back.

“Yep,” I nodded, “I saw that. It’s already on the list for our workshop. We’ll fix that, deep clean the air conditioning, and replace all the fluids before it even gets on the ship. That’s the standard.”

He just looked at me and nodded. That was the moment. Right there. The moment the last bit of professional hesitation vanished, replaced by a partnership.

We signed the papers on October 18th. It felt like a formality, really. The real deal was sealed days earlier, in that dusty yard, over a simple lunch of noodles and tea, talking about our families.

So, if you’re reading this, wondering if you can trust a company halfway across the world with your hard-earned money, I get it. I really do. All I can say is, we’re not a faceless corporation. We’re people who love buses and believe in looking you in the eye, even if it’s through a screen.

Let’s have a real conversation. Tell me about your business, your dreams. I’ll tell you about our buses, their stories, and I promise you, I’ll be honest about every single loose panel.

Cheers from China,

Reina Liu
(A real person who gets her hands dirty)

P.S. Jean, if you’re reading this, thank you. You know what you did. And the lunch is on me next time.
